If you've been in eCommerce for more than 15 minutes, you'll have no doubt received a cold email (or cold call, if deeply unlucky) from an SMS provider. There are dozens all vying for market share in a highly competitive space, which brings us to the purpose of this list: how do you choose the right one?
Well, our team has tested, demo'd, and learned about our fair share of SMS marketing platforms to help provide a a blueprint for you so you don't have to.
Through this process, we've found that while the executed product is always the same (SMS), the actual platform experience, as well as features like compliance and list growth, have a greater disparity than we thought initially possible.
A quick word: a recent trend of SMS platforms involves launching email as an adjacent offering. For the purpose of this list, we will not be exploring email as a part of these company’s features - rather we’ll only be looking at SMS in its purest form.
Our Pick: Attentive

A complete SMS suite with additional capabilities like signup forms and email marketing, alongside top-tier customer support.
This is our top pick by a fairly wide margin. Not only does it have best in case functionalities, like message retargeting, known litigator removal, and high-performance sign-up units (their word for "pop-ups" or "forms") - but it also features one of the best customer support teams we've come across.
We also appreciate Attentive’s attempts to be on the cutting edge of SMS technologies, especially when it comes to releasing tooling around business RCS. They seem to have found the perfect approach to creating a platform that powers both enterprise and SMBs, and the latter can especially benefit from accessing a suite of features usually reserved only for the biggest of CPG and DTC players.

Attentive is leading the shift to RCS messaging.

A full suite of automation with powerful triggers and strong segmentation capabilities.
However, one thing that should be noted is Attentive’s heavy push to use AI in messaging and automations. While this may be helpful to some, the AI will always push longer messages, which results in a higher cost per message once sent (it should be noted Attentive’s billing works in credits - for every 160 characters, 1 credit is charged).
SMS is such an easy space to get right if you have a strong brand identity, especially considering the need for brevity while crafting your message, that our recommendation is to avoid using the AI tool. This is in no way a dealbreaker, though, as it’s a completely optional tool.
Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Industry leader, providing a great product to brands of all size | A contract is required |
A great roadmap that is heavily discussed and advertised | Can be more expensive than competitors |
Integrates with just about everything | |
Frequent updates and product releases | |
White glove service is more than just a buzz word, their team genuinely goes above and beyond |
Top Integrations: Shopify, Klaviyo, Gorgias
Pricing: For shorter contracts a platform fee is charged, however you’re usually able to negotiate out of a fee if you’re able to sign a 2 or 3 year contract. Credits start at around $.01 and can get lower if negotiated.
So, who’s it for? We think Attentive is best for brands that are already familiar with SMS or have already begun capturing lists & consent. It’s also a great option for eCommerce & Marketing teams that just want to onboard one SMS marketing program in their brand’s lifespan and be done with it.
In speaking with teams at brands across a wide range of CPG, we’ve found that once you’ve onboarded with Attentive, you’re very unlikely to leave again (while the same cannot be said of other SMS platforms).
Runner Up: Postscript

Postscript is a great option for brands newer to the SMS marketing channel or those who aren’t looking to pay high-fees or sign a multi-year contract.
If Attentive is the father of SMS Marketing, Postscript is the gen-Z nephew. It’s lightweight, a little more fun, and slightly quirky.
Started in 2018, Postscript entered the scene in the early days of this channel. Since then, they have iterated on their product substantially and begun offering features like an AI shopping assistant, cashback, and a paid management option.
Spotting a lack of competition against Attentive, it seems that Postscript has pivoted away from the folksiness of their early days and left that to platforms like Emotive. Instead, they are focusing more heavily on compliance, sign up forms, and their managed offerings.

Postscript’s UI is easy-to-use and clutter free.
In our research, we found that Postscript has had a relatively unorthodox roadmap, with features talked about and then fading into obscurity - or iteration focused on places that require brands and users to pay an additional fee to take advantage of increased functionality.
We have to hand it to Postscript, though, in a world of SMS tools trying their hardest to become CDPs the team at Postscript is laser-focused on offering a solid SMS product.
Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Lightweight, easy to get started | Not as compliance-focused |
Very modular, with plenty of integrations | Dodgy roadmap |
Feature-packed, with unexpected releases like cashback | Customer support can be rocky |
Competitive pricing |
Top Integrations: Shopify, Klaviyo, Gorgias, Helpscout, Re:amaze, Replo, Okendo, Junip
Pricing: Postscript offers a variety of tiered plans. Unlike other platforms, though, these tiers come with different features, based on what’s important to you. You can see the pricing below, as off Q4 2025.

Free: $0/mo, $0.009/SMS | Growth: $100/mo, $0.008/SMS | Professional: $0.007/SMS
So, who’s it for? Postscript is a great option for brands just starting out with text marketing or those on a more constrained budget. Pricing at Postscript will, by and large, be better than what Attentive can or is willing to offer.
It’s also a great platform if you’re looking for partner that purely offers SMS and won’t be upselling you on email, customer hubs, reviews, and more.
Great Option: Klaviyo SMS

You likely know Klaviyo, and you probably are aware they offer SMS. For a lot of people though, that’s where it ends. Klaviyo only entered the SMS game relatively recently, and at times, their launch and product roadmap has felt a little scattered. Does that mean it’s bad? Certainly not. Does it mean that they might not have the same competitive edge in SMS as they do in email? Well, you came to us for an opinion and our opinion is… it remains to be seen, but we’re not overly confident.
Nothing illustrates this better than the fact that Klaviyo does not offer SMS as a standalone package. Rather, it is only available to brands using their email marketing suite, but the product is good and edges out other competitors enough that it remains a pick of ours - and considering that Klaviyo is used by a majority (non scientific data point) of DTC brands, it felt like an appropriate inclusion.
Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Easy to use, with basic features | Requires use of Klaviyo Email |
Invested into heavily by Klaviyo, which means it will stick around | A little lacking in terms of features (no AI shopping, mediocre native signup forms, etc.) |
Competitive pricing at higher volumes |
Top Integrations: Shopify, Gorgias,
Pricing: It’s hard to provide accurate pricing, because Klaviyo requires the use of their email marketing tool - but based on our research and conversations we’ve had with brands, you should expect pricing to be competitive against Attentive.
So, who’s it for? Klaviyo users, point blank. It’s a platform that deeply integrates with the email marketing flows and campaigns of Klaviyo-based brands. Does it have everything that Attentive or Postscript offer? Not necessarily. But at the end of the day, SMS really isn’t that complicated and their product does work out of the box as advertised.
And we’ll end this with an important acknowledgement: as we’ve mentioned, Klaviyo SMS does require the use of Klaviyo Email - while other options don’t. Klaviyo’s tool, in our opinion, edges out many standalone SMS marketing platforms so much that it’s deserving of being a pick.
Other Considerations
While we highly recommend choosing one of the previously mentioned platforms, we did review and speak to brands using the below options.
Emotive
Emotive was an early and direct competitor of Postscript. Unfortunately, over the years they’ve pivoted away from trying to keep up with parity to other SMS platforms and donned a new approach: race to the bottom pricing. If you’re looking for a cheaper option than any of our picks, Emotive is worth the consideration. And, having been recently acquired by Privy, Emotive’s got a new lease on life - maybe they’ll be back in fighting spirit over the next few years.
Braze
Braze is an enterprise platform for SMS marketing. It’s primary customers are brands like KFC, wine (.) com, and GAP. If your business is in a similar growth stage, then it’s definitely a platform to consider - but for the purposes of our research and user base, it didn’t align well enough earn a pick from us.
